What every haircut includes

A cut with Vanessa starts with a conversation and ends with your hair styled the way you plan to wear it, plus the know-how to do it again at home.

  1. 01

    A conversation first

Vanessa asks how you part your hair, how you style it most days, how much time you give it in the morning, and what bothered you about your last cut.

  2. 02

    The cut

The shape is planned around your texture, your density, and the part you actually wear, so it still works on the days you style it yourself.

  3. 03

    A finished style

Every haircut is finished with a style, so you leave seeing the full shape the way it is meant to sit, not wet and combed flat.

  4. 04

    How to recreate it

Before you go, Vanessa shows you how to dry the front, which brush or tool suits your hair, and how many weeks the shape should hold.

Cuts women ask for

The haircuts women ask for most

A starting point for your consultation. Each card covers who the cut tends to suit, how it grows out, and how often it usually needs a trim to keep its shape.

  • Shoulder and longer

    Long layers

Movement and lift through long hair without giving up the length you have grown.

    Suits
Medium to thick hair that feels heavy, flat at the crown, or hard to dry.
    Grows out
Gently. The layers drop lower and blend back into the length.
    Trim
    Every 8-12 weeks
  • Any length

    Face-framing layers

Shorter pieces around the face that open up your cheekbones and jaw when you wear it down.

    Suits
Anyone who wears her hair down most days, or is growing out bangs.
    Grows out
The front pieces fall past the chin and turn into soft long layers.
    Trim
    Every 6-10 weeks
  • Any length

    Curtain bangs

A soft, parted fringe that sweeps to both sides instead of sitting straight across.

    Suits
Straight or wavy hair, a center part, and anyone trying bangs for the first time.
    Grows out
Easily. They sweep aside and blend into face framing within a couple of months.
    Trim
    Bangs every 3-5 weeks
  • Chin to collarbone

    Bob or lob

One clean line that makes the ends look full, from a sharp chin-length bob to a softer long bob.

    Suits
Fine to medium hair that looks thin at the ends, or a fresh start after damaged lengths.
    Grows out
A bob loses its line in a few weeks. A lob grows into shoulder length gracefully.
    Trim
    Every 6-10 weeks
  • Any length

    A clean-up trim

The same shape, with the dry, split, or see-through ends taken off.

    Suits
Growing your hair out, or protecting ends that are colored, lightened, or heat styled.
    Grows out
No change in shape. Your hair keeps its length and loses the frayed ends.
    Trim
    Every 8-12 weeks

How to ask for the haircut you want

Most haircut disappointments start with a word that meant one thing to you and another to the stylist. "A trim" and "layers" are the usual suspects. These four habits close the gap.

Talk it through on the phone
  1. Bring photos

Photos of what you love, and what you do not

Two or three photos of hair close to your own texture say more than any description. A photo of a cut you disliked is just as useful.

Try saying"I like the layers around her face here, but I do not want short pieces on top."

  2. Your mornings

How long you really style it

A cut that needs a round brush every day will not suit someone who air dries and goes. Be honest about the time you give your hair.

Try saying"Most days I air dry it and put it up. I blow-dry maybe twice a week."

  3. Your part and cowlicks

Where it parts and where it fights you

Show how you wear your part and point out any cowlick, especially at the crown or hairline. Both change where layers and bangs should start.

Try saying"I always part it on the left, and this piece at my crown sticks up."

  4. Your limit

The length you will not go past

Inches mean different things to different people. Touch the spot on your neck, collarbone, or chest that is your shortest comfortable length.

Try saying"Nothing shorter than here, even after the layers are in."

Blowouts and styling

Need a blowout without the cut?

Blowouts can be booked on their own for a dinner, a photo day, or the start of a trip. Choose sleek, bouncy volume, or soft waves. The blowouts page covers each finish, the occasions women book them for, and how to make one last in Florida humidity.

Cut and color

Booking a haircut with your color

A cut and a color on the same day is one of the most efficient visits you can book, as long as the salon knows to plan for both.

If you are changing your color, start with the hair color options, or read how balayage grows out before you decide how short to go. Painted color and layers work together: the layers decide where the brightness shows when your hair moves.

  1. Color or lightening

Color, toner, or balayage goes on first, while the full length is still there to work with.

  2. The cut

Processed ends come off, and layers are placed to show the brightness where it landed.

  3. The finish

A finished style, so you see the color and the shape together before you leave.

Why color usually comes first: lightener and toner can change how hair dries and falls, and the cut removes the most processed ends. When you call, mention both services so enough time is reserved with Vanessa.

Trim guide

How often to get a haircut

General guidance by length and style. Fine hair, curls, color, and heat styling all shift the timing, so Vanessa will suggest a schedule for your cut.

  • BangsEvery 3-5 weeks

Bangs reach your lashes quickly, so they need shaping between full cuts.

  • Bob or short cutEvery 4-8 weeks

Short shapes rely on a crisp line, and a few weeks of growth shows.

  • Lob or shoulder lengthEvery 6-10 weeks

Ends start to flip or rest awkwardly on the shoulders.

  • Long layersEvery 8-12 weeks

Layers drop and lose lift as the hair grows.

  • Growing it outEvery 10-14 weeks

A small trim keeps split ends from traveling up the hair.

Signs you are due, whatever the calendar says

  • The ends look thin or see-through in photos
  • Your hair tangles at the ends more than it used to
  • Styling takes longer than it did after your last cut
  • Layers or bangs no longer fall where they should

What a women's haircut costs

Your price depends on your length, your density, and whether you add a style or color. Call, describe your hair and what you have in mind, and the salon will quote you on the phone.

  • Longer or thicker hair takes more time, so length and density set the starting point
  • Adding color, balayage, or highlights to the same visit changes the quote
  • Blowouts and styling can be booked and quoted on their own

Can I book just a haircut?

Yes. Call 386-872-2263 and ask for a haircut with Vanessa. Every cut includes a finished style. If you are also thinking about color, say so when you call so the salon can reserve enough time.

Can I book only a blowout?

Yes. Blowouts and styling can be booked on their own, for a dinner, a photo day, an event, or a trip. The Blowouts page explains the finishes and how to make one last in Florida humidity, or call 386-872-2263 to find a time.

How much does a women's haircut cost?

Your price depends on your length, your density, and whether you add a style or color. Call 386-872-2263, describe your hair and what you want, and the salon will quote you on the phone.

How often should I get a trim?

As general guidance, bangs need shaping every 3-5 weeks, short cuts every 4-8 weeks, and longer hair every 8-12 weeks. If you are growing your hair out, a small trim every 10-14 weeks keeps the ends healthy. Vanessa will suggest a schedule for your cut.

What should I bring to my haircut?

Bring two or three photos of hair you like and one of a cut you did not like. Wear your hair the way you usually style it, so Vanessa can see your part, your texture, and how it falls on a normal day.

Should I get my color before or after my cut?

When you book both on the same day, color usually comes first and the cut follows, so processed ends come off and the layers can be placed around the new color. Mention both when you call.

Do you have evening appointments?

Yes. The salon is open until 8pm on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, which helps if you work during the day. Call to ask about times with Vanessa.
